Assisted Living facilities try to provide as much as independence as possible while maintaining a safe environment. Some facilities have separate sections where additional support is provided for seniors who need additional help.
Food is usually Included
Daily meals are usually included in monthly fees for assisted living facilities. Usually meals can be eaten in the dining room with rest of residents. Some facilities will provide meals in patient’s rooms. This usually includes all 3 meals and daily snacks.
Utilities are Usually Included
Utilities such as water, sewer, electricity, and gas are usually included in the monthly fees. There is usually no additional cost for basic day to day needs. Shopping and transportation assistance is usually available at most facilities.
Security and Safety
Safety and security of the building is provided by the facility. There is also 24/7 supervision available in the building as well as someone who can respond to emergencies.
Communication
Assisted Living Facilities communicate with families based on resident preferences and keep families updated on resident’s condition.
Care giving services provided
Assisted Living Facilities provide 24/7 caregiver support to residents. Depending on the facility, this type care may be limited, but someone will always be there with the residents. Transportation services to patient’s doctor appointments or shopping may be available. Wellness/Fitness programs as well as social/recreational activities are available.
Medication Management
Assisted Living Facilities usually do not have a Registered Nurse, but most do have a Licensed Vocational Nurse who serves as the clinical point of contact for the facility. Assisted living facilities help with administering medications as prescribed by patient’s physicians.
